White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt has embarrassed an ABC (U.S.) reporter over conflicting reports on peace talks between the US and Iran. During a Monday press conference, ABC News (U.S.) reporter Rachel Scott questioned Leavitt about the “conflicting messages” from the White House and Iran’s regime. Leavitt shut down Scott’s question, arguing that Americans are “smart enough” to realise Iran cannot be taken at their word and have “repeatedly lied”.

“I think the American people are smart enough not to take the word of a terrorist regime that has chanted death to America for 47 years at their word. And I hope journalists in this room are wise enough not to take an Iranian regime that has repeatedly lied about our country, about our values, about everyone in this room, frankly, for nearly five decades,” Leavitt said.
