One Nation MP Barnaby Joyce condemns the Albanese government's decision to scrap the northern inland rail project, claiming the party has “no belief in regional areas whatsoever”. “On behalf of Australia, on behalf of the regional towns … on behalf of the businesses that would’ve been such a beneficiary from freight-rail … and the disappointment in a government that just throws out these massive figures.
“We have, because of this, in a fuel crisis, in an energy crisis, decided to scrap a piece of infrastructure that mitigated that crisis. “If diesel engines attached to prime movers pulling your groceries shut down … we actually have an alternative, but they decided to shut that, it’s just beyond belief.” These are real assets that are doing a job, and it's been canned by a government that has no belief in regional areas whatsoever.”
