ITA reports 17 road deaths during March

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Seventeen people were killed in traffic crashes during the month of March 2026, a 50 per cent reduction when compared to the 34 who lost their lives in March 2025.The deaths resulted from 16 fatal crashes, according to the latest statistics released on Wednesday by the Island Traffic Authority (ITA).During the month, eight motorcyclists were killed, accounting for 47 per cent of the fatalities.There were five deaths among private motor vehicle drivers with this group of road users accounting for 29 per cent of the overall fatalities during the month under review.The ITA said pedestrians accounted for 18 per cent or three fatalities, while private motor vehicle passengers accounted for six per cent or one fatality during the month.One child died during March 2026, resulting in fatalities among children decreasing by 67 per cent when compared to March 2025.Also, one elderly person died in one fatal crash during March 2026, pushing elderly fatalities down 80 per cent when compared to March 2025.
