Israeli forces have widened their offensive in southern Lebanon, advancing towards the Litani River under heavy air and artillery cover as part of a push to create a buffer zone. The military has been destroying homes along the way and also struck a Lebanese army position, which is not party to the conflict, near Tyre, killing one soldier. Hezbollah is fighting back on multiple fronts, engaging Israeli troops in direct combat and launching rocket and drone attacks inside Israel.
The group says its strategy is to prevent Israel from consolidating territorial control, with analysts warning the conflict could turn into a prolonged war of attrition.
