But too much of that good thing can undermine and blur into substituting for paid (and trained) journalistic labour. Nobody would deny that journalism is in a fragile state. But it's not clear whether the best way forward is to continue to pay for it as we always have, just as it's not clear the best way for scholars is to focus their efforts on in-class instruction.
