Govt Approves MSP Procurement of Over 18 Lakh MT Pulses, Oilseeds for Rabi 2025-26 Season New Delhi, Mar 31 (KNN) Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has approved procurement of over 18 lakh metric tonnes of pulses and oilseeds under the Minimum Support Price (MSP) mechanism for the Rabi 2025–26 season across Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Karnataka, with a total outlay exceeding Rs 11,698 crore.

The procurement, to be undertaken under the Price Support Scheme (PSS), is aimed at ensuring remunerative prices for farmers and preventing distress sales in the market. In Haryana, the minister approved procurement of more than 3.73 lakh metric tonnes of gram and mustard, valued at over Rs 2,312 crore. This includes 13,082 metric tonnes of gram and 3,60,528 metric tonnes of mustard. For Uttar Pradesh, approval has been granted for procurement of approximately 14.31 lakh metric tonnes of gram, masoor, and mustard at MSP, with a total estimated value of around Rs 9,341 crore. The approved quantities include 2.24 lakh metric tonnes of gram, 6.77 lakh metric tonnes of masoor, and 5.30 lakh metric tonnes of mustard. In Karnataka, the government has approved procurement of 6,923 metric tonnes of kusum (safflower) under PSS, amounting to Rs 45.27 crore, representing 25 per cent of the quantity proposed by the state. The ministry stated that the large-scale procurement of key pulse and oilseed crops will help stabilise prices, ensure fair returns to farmers, and strengthen domestic production of essential commodities. It added that the initiative aligns with the government’s broader strategy to enhance food and nutritional security, boost oilseed and pulse output, and support farm incomes under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The procurement process will be supported by robust digital infrastructure, including POS-based systems, to ensure transparency and timely payments to farmers. (KNN Bureau)
