Government forced to backflip after axing funding for Victoria Cross recipient's family

Sky News host Peta Credlin says overwhelming public backlash forced the government to backflip on stripping funding from the family of Victoria Cross recipient Cameron Baird. “This morning on my way back from the gym, I got a message from Doug Baird, saying that the veterans minister had been in touch and they were backing down on their decision to strip him of funding,” Ms Credlin said. “Funding he has received since his late son, Cameron Baird, was awarded the Victoria Cross in a battle in Afghanistan, for which he saved the lives of his mates but lost his own. “Funding that amounted to less than $5,000 a year, that he and his wife, Kaye, used to help cover their travel costs as they attended RSL and community events, to support veterans and their families. “Your anger was swift, and it's because of you and a big push from Tony Abbott that we now have this money reinstated in Cameron's name, and a promise that it will not be touched again in their lifetime.”
