My first reaction to this news is to remember Sir Anthony Meyer, for younger readers of PB, Sir Anthony Meyer was the stalking horse challenger against Mrs Thatcher in 1989, Mrs Thatcher won the contest but there was a great big red flag for her (which she ignored) that 60 Tory MPs out 374 weren’t prepared to back her against a joke of a candidate.
