Police in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia launched raids in eight cities targeting suspected far-right extremists early on Wednesday, security sources said, reported dpa. The searches in Germany's most populous state are targeting 10 suspects linked to a group known as Young and Strong. All of them are German citizens, the sources said. One of the suspects had already been placed in pre-trial detention in connection with a separate matter.

Violence in Germany by young neo-Nazis has increased since 2024, including attacks on Pride events such as the Christopher Street Day parade, one of the largest LGBTQI celebrations in the country. Germany's Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) said in mid-2025 that it had observed the emergence of new youth-led far-right groups over the past year, many of which were initially formed online. These groups are now increasingly appearing in public through events, disruptive actions and criminal offences. The largest of these groups was Young and Strong, which security sources estimate to have a mid-three-digit number of followers. Investigators are also focusing on three other groups, one of which is believed to have more than 100 members.
