One of the privileges of my job is that it often happens quite quickly as I'm talking with people. “Maybe I learn about some tragedy earlier in their life, and it makes me see them, understand them differently. It's not until halfway through that the disciples identify Jesus rightly. “And in John chapter 14, there's a moment where Philip says to Jesus, Lord, show us the father. He's referring to God the Father. And Jesus reply is spine tingling, powerful. “He says, don't you know me, Philip? Anyone who has seen me has seen the father. It's an extraordinary claim. “When I consider Jesus, who do I think I'm looking at? Do I think I have him all worked out?
