Sashana-Lee Edwards was on Sunday elected president of Generation 2000 (G2K), becoming the first woman to lead the young professional affiliate of the ruling Jamaica Labour Party.Edwards secured a decisive victory over her opponent, Newton Harris, at the organisation’s annual general meeting (AGM) held at the JLP headquarters.According to a G2K release, a former general secretary of G2K, Edwards assumes leadership with a reputation for discipline, service, and forward-thinking vision.

Together, we will strengthen G2K, expand our impact, and ensure that our voices are heard across this nation,” she said.Her election has been widely viewed as a transformative moment for the organisation, signaling a shift toward more inclusive and progressive leadership, and highlighting the growing role of women in positions of influence. “Despite the challenges, despite the doubts, we stayed focused. We stayed committed. And tonight, we proved that with courage and conviction, anything is possible,” Edwards reflected.Outgoing President Shayne Kerr also extended congratulations, expressing confidence in her leadership.“I warmly congratulate President Edwards on her historic victory. I have no doubt that she will serve with distinction and continue to advance the mission of Generation 2000,” Kerr said.Elected to serve as vice presidents are Ricardo Robinson (48 votes), Aaliyah Rodgers (42 votes), Kimone Roper (39 votes), and Chad Rattray (37 votes).Edwards tallied 40 votes Harris’ 21 votes.The newly elected leadership team is expected to usher in a renewed focus on youth engagement, innovation, and national development, as Generation 2000 positions itself for continued growth and impact.
