KINGSTON, Jamaica — Fidelity Motors Limited, which began selling vehicles from Guangzhou Automobile Corporation (GAC) in Jamaica last year, is expanding its presence in the local market with the rollout of the brand’s full vehicle line-up.The company, best known as Jamaica’s distributor of Nissan Motor Company vehicles, on Wednesday unveiled six GAC models at the National Indoor Sports Centre, including the debut of the S7 plug-in hybrid SUV.The move builds on early traction following the brand’s local introduction in late 2025, as Fidelity broadens its offering in response to changing consumer demand.Globally, GAC is also seeing strong growth, with 42,165 units sold in March — an 86 per cent increase year-on-year — supporting its push into Caribbean markets.Chief Executive of Goddard Enterprises Limited Auto Division, Alan Bayne, said the brand’s appeal is being reinforced by strong resale value, citing a February 2026 industry report that ranked GAC number one among Chinese brands for three-year residual value.“That will provide much comfort to the Jamaican car buyer,” Bayne said.General Manager of Fidelity Motors, Deborah Stewart, said customer preferences are evolving beyond price to include technology, safety and overall driving experience.“The response since our introduction late last year has been extremely encouraging,” Stewart said, adding that the expanded line-up is intended to meet demand across multiple segments. The current GAC offering in Jamaica spans internal combustion, hybrid and electric vehicles, including the GS3 Emzoom, Emkoo, GS8, Empow sedan and the fully electric AION V.The newly introduced S7 adds to that mix as a five-seater plug-in hybrid SUV, featuring a 1.5-litre hybrid engine, a total range of up to 1,150 kilometres and advanced driver-assist systems, including map-free autonomous driving functions.GAC’s expansion is being supported through a regional partnership with Motorworld, its Caribbean distributor, alongside supply relationships with global component makers such as Bosch, Denso and Michelin. At the launch, China’s Ambassador to Jamaica, Wang Jinfeng, said the brand’s entry reflects broader economic ties between Jamaica and China, particularly in areas tied to investment and technology.
