Emergency fuel reserves coming from US for first time in decades

Lurion De Mello, from Macquarie University’s Transforming Energy Markets Research Centre, said three ships with refined oil are coming to Australia from the US. “Crude oil has arrived from America to our shores before, but this is the first time (that) refined fuel in terms of petrol, diesel (or) maybe jet fuel is coming to Australia (from the US in decades),” Mr De Mello told Sky News. “I've never seen any of the shipments come for a long time. “I guess we are kind of running out of supply options coming from Asia, so Americans are sending large amounts of cargo.”
