KINGSTON, Jamaica — Devon Biscuits says it has reduced prices on its products despite the implementation of Jamaica’s new sugar tax, positioning the move as an effort to ease pressure on consumers amid rising living costs. The price reductions took effect on May 4, according to a company release issued this week.“Devon Biscuits has taken the decision to reduce prices as part of our ongoing commitment to supporting consumers, particularly in light of the current economic environment in Jamaica,” Brand Manager Sherene Bryan said in the release. The company said the initiative forms part of a broader strategy aimed at making its products more accessible to Jamaican families while reinforcing its role in supporting communities.“We recognise the importance of delivering value beyond the products themselves, and these price adjustments are intended to make our offerings more accessible to Jamaican families while reinforcing our responsibility as a brand to support national well-being,” the release stated. The announcement comes as several food manufacturers begin adjusting prices in response to the Government’s new sugar tax measures, which are expected to increase costs across parts of the food and beverage sector.Devon Biscuits manufactures and distributes a range of products including Chocolate Digestive, Bourbon Creams, Coconut Shortcake and Digestives.
