ST JAMES, Jamaica — A team from the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) is currently in Montego Bay working to clear a backup of waste at the outlet of the South Gully.An excavator and tipper trucks have been deployed to remove the waste that includes a build-up of silt, plastic items and other waste materials.Executive Director of the NSWMA, Audley Gordon, was on location to oversee the activity that is set to clean up a massive eyesore for the western city.READ: NSWMA to do one-time cleaning of MoBay South GullyThe work is being done under the NSWMA Debris Management Programme, which was being done as part of efforts to remove debris that has accumulated since the passage of Hurricane Melissa, which made landfall on October 28, 2025 causing widespread destruction to much of the western region of the island.It is expected that the effort will see more than 10 truckloads of waste removed.
