Chains of No Return, Goree

Gorée Island, off the coast of Senegal, was a key site in the transatlantic slave trade. European powers used it as a holding and trading center for enslaved Africans. Captives were kept in harsh conditions before being shipped to the Americas. The “Door of No Return” symbolizes their forced departure and loss of homeland. Today, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a memorial to the victims of slavery.
