Clayton-Thomas was the lead vocalist of the jazz-rock band Blood, Sweat Tears during its most successful years in the late 1960s and 1970s. His powerful, soulful voice helped drive hits such as “Spinning Wheel,” “And When I Die,” and “You’ve Made Me So Very Happy,” while the band’s self-titled 1968 album won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year in 1970.
