Four Californians, exposed to the Andes strain of the Hantavirus, are now being monitored by public health officials. This, as 18 passengers from the cruise ship at the center of the outbreak are now back in the U.S., 16 of them asymptomatic and being quarantined in Nebraska, and two others, who are experiencing minor symptoms are in Atlanta, in a bio-containment unit at a specialized facility at Emory University.

All this, as health officials, including the Acting Director of the CDC are urging calm, Jay Bhattacharya saying it does not makes sense to sound "a five-alarm fire bell," as the risk to the public from Hantavirus is "much, much lower" than the risk posed during the COVID pandemic. With more on the virus, the containment, transmission, and treatment, Cher Calvin and Micah Ohlman are joined by Doctor Anne Rimoin, Director of The UCLA Fielding School of Public Health's Center for Global Health Security.
